Sounds Like The Old New York.
As someone who grew up in NYC during the late 70’s, 80’s, and through to the mid 90’s. A time in which cops were famous for the “it’s not worth the paperwork” line. We unfortunately resorted to taking matters into our own hands with a general ass-whooping in a situation like this.
While I know that seems extreme. One thing I can assure you, is that someone like this would never do it again. A lot of the girls that hung out with us were constant victims of this behavior, and the cops were always useless.
This led us to travel in packs and defemd ourselves. It is also one of the reasons the term NYHC (New York Hardcore), came to be. It was never just about the music, but about how we were forced to survive on the streets of NYC. It was a lifestyle.
As trendy as NYC is now, it was nothing nice back then. And with all that being said, some things will never change. People will continue to walk right by you as if nothing is going on, with a general unwillingness to help.
As the old saying goes (and still holds true), “we’ve seen it all on the streets of NYC.” I’m sorry to hear this happened to you. And while generally NYC is a lot safer now than it was back then, it’s always better to travel in packs.
One of the most valuable assets in this world is to learn how to defend yourself, as well as learning to deal punishment as needed. Good vibes from me to you. Let’s hope they catch the scumbag.
