Unfortunately, many Latinos try to adopt this so-called “White culture" as their own in an attempt to fit in and not be treated as lesser than White folks. What they fail to realize is that those same White folks they’re trying to impress will hate them either way. One of the many driving factors behind my work is trying to expose those in my own community to the reality that Whiteness is a construct used to oppress them too. From colonialism to colorism to xenophobia and racism, I try to break down the complexities of the issue into smaller bite sized articles that are easier to consume. I get a lot of grief for it from many in the Latino/a/x community, but I do it because it needs to be done.
